At Little + Co, we believe in seeking out a broad range of natural, new, recycled and re-purposed resources for the children to explore. Our lovely playscape will encourage the children to be both imaginative and creative in their play. Children love to role play. To this end we have been sourcing a selection of vintage saucepans, teapots, cake tins and other items from the kitchens of Brisbane’s grandparents in particular. There is something special about breathing new life and purpose into old things.
Providing children with real materials and an engaging environment is philosophically aligned to a number of educational theorists such as Albert Bandura, John Dewey and Maria Montessori. Our philosophy and practice at Little + Co will not be exclusively aligned to any one theorist, drawing instead on a range of educational philosophies. The use of real tools in our environments can lead to meaningful learning experiences – therefore, we embrace it!
So if anyone is having a kitchen clean out, please keep us in mind. What everyday household items did you like to play with as a child and which do your children like to play with now?
